Emil L. Zimmerman Sr., 86, of Staunton, Ill., passed away peacefully with his son and daughter by his side on Aug. 7, 2024. Emil was born in St. Vincent, Ark., on Jan. 18, 1938, the son of the Late Paul and Christine (Pfeifer) Zimmerman. He married Angeline “Angie” Mary (Konecnik) on Feb. 20, 1960 in St. Louis, Mo., and they lived together for 49 beautiful years until her passing on June 3, 2009.
Emil served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. After that, he worked as a contractor with his older brother Paul for many years. He was also passing down his knowledge and expertise to his son-in-law, Buddy, working many projects together as family. Emil was a loving father and he loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and meeting nights in his barn with friends.
He is survived by his two children, Emil Zimmerman Jr., and Christine (Louis) Foster, Staunton, Ill .; four grandchildren, David (Sarah) Zimmerman, Grafton, Ill., Rachel Zimmerman, St. Louis, Mo., Andrew (Claudia) Foster, Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Ashley (Bradley) Seketa, Staunton; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Betty) Zimmerman, Staunton, and Ron (Sherrel) Zimmerman, Cape Girardeau, Mo .; two sisters, Tina (Jim) Brubaker, Pueblo West, Colo., and Lucy Bell, Collinsville, Ill; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Angie Zimmerman; one daughter, Jackie Zimmerman; and one sister, Albertine Beard.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024. at St. Michael Catholic Church located in Staunton, Ill., and Rev. Thomas Hagstrom will be officiating. Following Mass, interment will be held at the St. Michael Catholic Section in Memorial Park Cemetery located in Staunton. The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites. Emil’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
