McCoig

Rosella M. McCoig, 86 of Alhambra, Ill., died at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center in Gillespie on Monday, Aug. 5, 2024. She was born on Sunday, Oct. 3, 1937, in Licking, Mo., the daughter of the Late Sam Ross Crabtree and Anna (nee Miller) Crabtree. She married SSgt. James Freeman McCoig, Sr. in 1964 in Carlinville and he preceded her in death on Tuesday, April 29, 1975.

Rosella grew up in Licking, Mo., and later in Murphysboro, Ill. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, walking and dancing. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who was always on the go.

She is survived by her seven children, JoAnn Cross, Alton, Ill.; Roy Alonzo Day, Alhambra; Linda (Rick) Bondy, Staunton; Vickie (Jimmy) Pocklington, Carlinville; Ellie May (Brian) Schreiber, Gillespie; Joyce M. (Bill) Rimmel, Raymond, Ill.; and James F. McCoig, Jr., Gillespie; brother, Joe Dan Crabtree, Rolla, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Freddie L. Crabtree; sister, Rosie E. Crabtree; brother, Winford Franklin Crabtree; sister, D. Lucille Hall; brother, Otis E. Crabtree; sister, Myrtle G. Kelley; grandchild, Timothy Parnell; grandchild, LaWanda Mae Crabtree; and great-grandchild, Kyara Stewart.

Visitation services were held on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024 and on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, Ill. After the Saturday Visitation Service, a Funeral Service took place at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra and Rev. Mark Gause of Alhambra’s First Baptist Church officiated.

Following the Funeral Service, interment was held at Murdale Gardens of Memory located in Murphysboro, Ill., and Pastor Larry Worthen officiated. Dauderman Mortuary of Alhambra was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gillespie Health and Rehab Center’s Activity Fund.
