Staunton Helping Hands Center July Recap

The Staunton Helping Hands Center (SHHC) continues to serve the community with a bountiful mass of volunteers that not only volunteer their own free time, but they do so with a cheerful attitude. Having all volunteers aligned in the same direction is a result of everyone being determined to provide a positive effect on the surroundings of an environment. In recent months, an average of 400 people (adults and children within households) have been impacted by the pantry services. An average of 140 households are served each month with an average of ten new households added each month.

Special thanks in July to three organizations that did special collection drives for the SHHC: Staunton Chiropractic Clinic; Illinois Valley; and Net Community Church. Those three organizations all did large collections. July is the lowest month of the year for donations, so these special collection drives were helpful. Donations were also received from the following churches in July: St. Michael’s Church; Assembly Church; Zion Lutheran Church; Concord Primitive Baptist Church; and St. Paul UCC.

Donations from individuals in July were received from: Rich Fiori; Wanda Watson; Lynn Niehaus; Mary Callovini (posthumously); Kathy Lawrenia; Arturo and Pamela Soto; Robert and Gloria Dvorak; Kathleen Benda; Susan Miller; Illinois Valley; Drew and Dee Lawrenia.

Memorial donations were received in loving memory of Doris Thomas from Worksaver Employee’s, John Behme; Mary DeLong; also, Daniel and Leann Eckhardt.

Anyone wishing to donate to the SHHC may do so in person during the center’s pantry hours: Tuesdays, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Staunton Helping Hands Center is located at 219 W. Main St. in Staunton or it may be mailed to P.O. Box 111. Donations can also be received at the following businesses during their hours of operation: Cash Out Gaming; Rooster’s Pub; and Ink Forge Printing.
