Worden Public Library August

Our next children’s program is scheduled for Saturday, August 17, at 10:00 a.m. The featured book will be School’s First Day of School, by Adam Rex, with pictures by Christian Robinson. School is nervous about his first day on the job. He feels even worse when he overhears two older boys talking. One states, “This place stinks,” while the other replies, “I hate school.” As the day continues, school listens in on some of the classes, realizes that most of the kids are pretty nice, and even learns something about rectangles. He and the janitor talk about their day, and the school hopes that all the kids will come back tomorrow. The illustrations consist of simple geometric shapes, including lots of rectangles. Kids who come to the program will make pictures of the school from the book.

Our summer reading program, Read, Renew, Repeat, continues through August. Children, teens, and adults are invited to come to the library, pick up reading logs, and keep track of their reading over the rest of the month. Prizes for adults and teens include gift certificates at Books a Million in Edwardsville. Children who read at least five books will receive geodes, rocks that can be cracked open to reveal crystals inside. There are two grand prizes for children from National Geographic; a Mega Fossil Dig Kit, and a Crystal Forest Kit. The reading program will end on September 2.

The library will have a representative from the Epilepsy Foundation on hand to answer your questions about this condition on Wednesday, August 7 from 2:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. Free brochures will also be available.

We are exploring the possibility of having an infertility support group meet at the library. Both men and women are welcome to join. If you are interested, please visit the library, or call us at 618-459-7171.

Our book club’s next meeting will be on Monday, August 26, at 10:00 a.m. Bring a book and join the discussion.
