Nancy Sue Showalter, 72, of Gillespie, passed away at Anderson Hospital in Maryville on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. She was born Nov. 16, 1951 in Granite City to the Late George Emerson and Georgia M. (Ruble) Reisinger. On July 22, 1969, she and Michael E. Showalter were married in Madison, Ill., and he survives.
Nancy was a member of the Assembly of God church. She had a special heart for people with special needs. She worked with developmentally disabled and neurodivergent individuals throughout her career at a residential facility, a workshop and as a bus driver. She loved bowling and spending time with friends and family. Nancy created a very special holiday which she called "Christgiving." It was a time for friends and family to come together to celebrate life and the birth of Jesus Christ.
She is survived by four children, Beth A. (Orville) Triplett, Gillespie, Rebbecca S. (Brian) Robinson, Staunton, Jennifer K. (Kenneth) Miller, Sawyerville, and Aaron M. (Angela) Showalter, Staunton; fifteen grandchildren, Jodi, Chris, Casey, Bailey, Andrea, Sadie, Wyatt, Carrie, Brianna, Kimberly, Kendra, Megan, Annybelle, Bobby, and Jacob; twenty-five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Carol Elliott, Fla .; and two brothers, Charlie Reisinger, Eagerville, and Russell Reisinger, Staunton.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse M. Robinson; and three brothers, Robert Keith, George Michael, and Monte Reisinger. The family may hold a celebration of her life at a later date.
