George Perry Harbaugh, 84, of Dorchester, Ill., passed away at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center in Gillespie, on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was born May 23, 1940, in Hettick, Ill. to John Lester and Iva Mae (Clark) Harbaugh and they preceded him in death. He married Darlene (Klein) Harbaugh on Jan. 5, 1962 in Appleton, Wis., and she survives.
He was an Agricultural Mechanic for Heyen's Farm Implement and then Sievers Equipment. He also worked as a Chainer and in the Maintenance Department at Laclede Steel. George was a member of the Fosterburg Baptist Church and he enjoyed tinkering with everything.
He is survived by his two children, Chris (Barbara) Harbaugh, Gillespie, and Russell Harbaugh, Litchfield; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Phyllis Black, Elmer Harbaugh, David Harbaugh, and Shirley Lee. George was preceded in death by his sons, Byron K. Harbaugh and Kenny Harbaugh; and six siblings, Charles Harbaugh, Carl Harbaugh, Louise Fry, Ernest Harbaugh, Dale Harbaugh, and Wayne Harbaugh.
A celebration of life will be held at the Forsterburg Baptist Church on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. with a meal to follow. Memorials are suggested to wishes of the family. Kravanya Funeral Home of Gillespie is in charge of the arrangements.
