Dear Star-Times,
I was surprised to see so few spectators watching the Tour De Donut this year. I can remember seeing people lining the streets from St. Michael's Church and Bill’s IGA to the turnoff at Sullivan’s. I was one of maybe 50 spectators this year.
Many bike riders still talk about how nice and motivating it was to ride with all the spectators and the Rib Fest contestants cheering you on.
I’m not sure why the Rib Fest was moved to a different day and location. I would like to suggest to the different committees in charge of these events to again place them on the same day.
I am sure the economic impact was quite large for Staunton as many of the riders and cookers and other out of town guests stayed and enjoyed the food and drink from our local vendors.
I would hate to see Staunton lose either one of these events. Especially the Tour de Donut, which was originated in Staunton, Ill., and is now copied throughout the country.
Thank You,
Tom Cioni,
Staunton Resident
