Davis

Melvin “Mel” L. Davis, 80, of Litchfield, Ill., passed away at the Community Hospital of Staunton on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He was born Oct. 5, 1943, in Divernon, Ill., the son of the Late Walter Davis and Opal (Bandy) Davis. He married his wife of 58 years, Merry Vath, on June 18, 1966 at the Litchfield Assembly of God Church and she survives.

Melvin graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1961. As a young boy, he taught himself to play the guitar and he loved country music. For many years, he played in local bands.

He enjoyed playing music with his sons and wife. Mel and his wife loved to travel around to festivals and for the state fair, enjoying the sightseeing and shopping along the way. He enjoyed playing games, cards, laughing, and drinking coffee with family.

Melvin is survived by his sons, Todd A. (Debra) Davis, Litchfield, Brian L. (Kayla) Davis, Litchfield, and Mark S. (Heather) Davis, Staunton; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Bill) Sharp, Litchfield; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Maxine Duff, Blanche Denby, and Phyllis Trunk; brothers, John Ray Davis, Larry Davis and Don Davis.

Visitation and Funeral services were held at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service located at 700 S. St., in Litchfield, on Sunday, July 14, 2024 and interment followed at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Litchfield Family Funeral Service of Litchfield was in charge of arrangements.
