Staunton Fire Protection District Accepting Volunteer Applications

The Staunton Fire Protection District takes the responsibility of providing fire and rescue services to area residents very seriously. The most important element needed to provide quality fire and rescue services is dedicated volunteer firefighters. Our community is currently protected by dedicated and committed volunteer firefighter who do their jobs when called upon. Saving lives and protecting property is not an easy task. The SFPD volunteers do it willingly and often without recognition.

Volunteer firefighters are a special kind of people. In order to continue to provide the best possible services, the SFPD is currently looking for additional volunteer members to help answer the call of duty. We are especially in need of volunteers who can respond to incidents Monday through Friday during the day time hours (6:00 am to 6:00 pm). As our community grows, our emergency calls for help increase. Today we respond to far more than fires and vehicle accidents. When someone there are natural gas leaks or carbon monoxide detectors sounding, we are there. We answer calls for anything from hazardous materials incidents to ice rescues to wilderness search and rescue operations. We need volunteer members to help us help our community.

To become Staunton Volunteer firefighter you must be at least 19 years of age, must live within the Staunton Fire Protection District, and must meet the basic requirements of the department application process. Volunteers must attend initial recruit training to learn basic firefighting skills. There is a continuing requirement for training throughout the firefighter's career to keep those skills sharp. SFPD volunteers also attend meetings and participate in SFPD fundraising activities.
