Florence E. Kramer (82) of Staunton died July 8 at the family home.

William J. Allen I (82) of Bridgeport, formerly of New Douglas, died July 6 at Good Samaritan Hospital Extended Care Facility in Vincennes, Ind.

Michael Albert Breza (84) of Mt. Olive died July 11 at Bohannon Nursing Home in Lebanon.

William “Bill” Delich (83) of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Mt. Olive, died July 8 at the home of his daughter.

Iva Syniski of Staunton died July 10 at St. Louis University Hospital.

Vincent George Bushmiller (85) of Mt. Olive died July 11 at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield.

Marie Ottino (91) of Pocatello, Idaho, formerly of Staunton and Livingston, died July 3 in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Virginia Margaret Morgan (86) of Sawyerville died July 7 at the home of her daughter in Mt. Clare.

More than 1200 cyclists registered for the Tour de Donut race in Staunton.

Winners in the Staunton Rib Cook-off were: 1st-Tallman Team; 2nd-Snyder Team; 3rd-Eckhardt & Steele.

Benld Elementary School received a $750,000 grant to use for construction of a temporary modular building for classrooms.

Noah Atkins-Harris was crowned Miss Staunton 2009. Devin Barrett was crowned Miss Independence. Little Miss Staunton is Danielle Russell and Preston Denney is Little Mister.

Paul R. Dawson, age 17, of New Douglas was killed when his truck ran off the road and overturned.
