Jerry Don Van Hooser, 81, of Alton, Ill., died at his residence on Sunday, June 30, 2024. He was born April 2, 1943, in Whitwell, Tenn., the son of Ernest L.Van Hooser and Lucille (Pennington) Van Hooser and they preceded him in death.
He married his wife Frances G. (Russell) Van Hooser on June 19, 1963 in Waterlooo, Ill., and she preceded him in death on May 18, 2008.
Jerry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy after having served on the USS Albany. He was a material man for Dome Railway Services in Wood River for over 30 years. He enjoyed Nascar, dirt track racing, doing the jitterbug and he was very creative with duct tape.
Jerry is survived by his three children, Audrey Faye Ussery, Karen(Jeff) Brown, and Tina Van Hooser; two siblings, Ruth (Ron) Wayland and Pat Posey; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive. Jerry was preceded in death by his two sons, Ronnie "Dean" Van Hooser and Billy Don (Becky) Van Hooser; as well as five siblings, Monk Ecker, Betty, Louis Van Hooser, Joe Bill Van Hooser, and Barbara Posey.
Graveside services were held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton, Ill., on July 5, 2024. Kravanya Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
