James E. "Jimbo" Cox Jr., 70, of Mt. Olive, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born Oct. 23, 1953 in Granite City the son of James E. Sr. and Mary (Seeba) Cox and they preceded him in death.
He married Paula (Basham) Cox on Dec. 4, 1971 in Granite City and she preceded him in death on June 15, 1993. James married Linda (Morgan) Cox of Mt. Olive, on Sept. 10, 1993 in Paris, Tenn., and she survives.
James was a member of the Local 520 Operating Engineers. He was retired after having been a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed antique cars, working on cars and operating heavy equipment. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his six children, Jimmy (Paula) Cox, Gillespie, Teresa (Allan) Pettit, Gillespie, Johnny (Nikki) Cox, Benld, Dwayne Miller, Granite City, Leonard (Elena) Miller, Bethalto, and Hoyt Miller, Granite City; daughter-in-law, Kim Miller, Bethalto; 17 grandchildren, Kaylee, Joie, Addison, Landon (Allison), Brittnie, Johnny Jr., Ethan, Bryson, Zach, Ethan, Talon, Mason, Josie, Abigail, Ladon, Opheilia, and Loukas; six great-grandchildren, Ella, Nicholas, Jaxynn, Bentley, Mason, and Myla; brother, Rodney (Tammy) Cox, Mt. Olive; and sister, Chrissy Cox, Benld.
James was preceded in death by his two sons, Marlin Miller and Marshall Coleman; grandson, Tyler Cox; sisters, Debbie Waugh and Octavia Cox.
Funeral services were held on July 6, 2024 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie and interment was held at the Gillespie Cemetery. Kravanya Funeral Home of Gillespie was in charge of the arrangements.
