Excessive speeding remains a serious issue on Illinois roadways and across the country. That's why the Macoupin County Sheriff's Office has joined with the Illinois Department of Transportation, and other Illinois law enforcement agencies to promote speed awareness during the Month of July 2024.
The numbers of combined rural State and Rural local roads and highways between 2016 and 2020 account for nearly 35 percent of all fatalities and 22 percent of all serious injury accidents with excessive speed being the leading contributing factor.
The goal is to promote safe driving habits aimed to ensure that roadways remain safe for all residents, visitors and their families as they travel our roadways. We ask that all citizens joinn us in promoting traffic safety and help keep everyone safe on our roadways this summer.
Macoupin County Sheriff,
Shawn Kahl
