Frey

Karen Sue Frey, 82, of Staunton, passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill., on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born Jan. 22, 1942 in Litchfield, Ill., the daughter of the late Nelson Goehe and Dorothy (Vogelang) Goethe. She married Charles B. “Chuck” Frey on Oct. 22, 1960 in Staunton and he preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1993.

She was the Vice President at First National Bank in Staunton for several years. She previously worked as a Loan Officer at First Community State Bank in Staunton and as a Bookkeeper at S and L Motor Parts in Staunton. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church of Staunton, Staunton Country Club, and the Staunton Chamber of Commerce.

She was steadfast to checking in with those she loved and was always a phone call away to whoever needed an ear to listen. She filled her life with so much joy that radiated to those around her. She enjoyed dancing in her early years and playing slot machines at the casino boat. She had a passion for golfing and excelled at the sport for as long as she could and she had a chip shot that one could only describe as “wicked.” Karen will be missed very deeply by all those who were blessed to have known her.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberley Knoche, Bloomington, Ill .; three grandchildren, Taylor Knoche, New York, N.Y., Kaelyn (Oracio) Molina, Gainesville, Fla., and Camryn Knoche, Bloomington, Ill .; many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Frey; sister, Linda Dal Pozzo; and son-in-law, Don Knoche.

Visitation services were held on Monday, June 17, 2024 and Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton and Rev. Thomas Hagstrom officiated. Memorials are suggested to either Staunton Country Club or to St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Staunton.
