Bartels

JoAnn Bartels, 71, of Gillespie, died at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill., on Monday, June 10, 2024. She was born in Staunton on July 9, 1952 the daughter of John W. Carter and Viola L. (Fones) Carter and they preceded her in death.

She married Louis Bartels of Gillespie, on July 11, 1970 in Mt. Olive and he survives. She was the office manager for Bartels Studio. JoAnn enjoyed walking, the outdoors and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two children, Crystal (companion, Michael Rekart) Bartels, Gillespie, and Louis "Buddy" (Danelle) Bartels, Mahomet, Ill .; six grandchildren, Viola Stangle, Jayden Stangle, Rafe Stangle, Kameron Bartels, Marinne Bartels, and Estella Bartels; sister, Jean Sies, Staunton; and sister-in-law, Nancy Carter. She was preceded in death by her son, John Louis Bartels; two brothers, William J. (Mary) Carter and John G. Carter.

No public services will be held and cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials are suggested to Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, La. Kravanya Funeral Home of Gillespie is in charge of the arrangements
