Macoupin County Girl Scout Unit 107 And Their Twilight Camp

BY KATIE DRUMMOND

Girl Scout Unit 107 held a Twilight Camp the week of May 27 through May 31, 2024 at Camp Hugh in Bunker Hill. There were approximately 100 Girl Scouts who attended the camp plus volunteers and leaders.

At camp, the Girl Scouts applied their Girl Scout Promise to daily camp activities. The troop honored all service men and women by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning of every day and singing TAPS at the end of every day. The Girl Scouts climbed a rock wall, hiked, built owl houses, met animals from a Wildlife Sanctuary, cooked food over a fire, and learned about archery. They also painted flower pots and learned about pollinating flowers while exploring the H.E.I.D.I. Foundation Association, explored nature's shapes and colors, as well as having sno-cones provided by Ice Ice Brawner. The older troops were able to camp overnight on the last night of camp.

Girl Scout Unit 107, which consists of Southern Macoupin County troops, could not have held such a meaningful and successful event if it was not for the generous donations from the following Gold and Silver Sponsors.
