Certified Food Protection Managers Class And Exam

University of Illinois Extension of Macoupin County will be offering the state mandated Certified Food Protection Managers class and exam. The Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Code (section 750.540) requires food service establishments to be under the operational supervision of a certified food protection manager during hours of operation. Certificates need renewal every five years and class attendance is mandatory to sit for the exam.

The course will be offered twice in July: A two-day course on July 25 and 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or a weekend course on July 27 and 28. The courses will take place at Macoupin County Extension in Carlinville, at 60 Carlinville Plaza. On July 27, the hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on July 28, the hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. for review and testing. Participants must attend both classes. The certification exam will take place on the second day of classes. Bring a valid photo ID to the exam.

This class is taught by Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Lisa Peterson and provides the minimum classroom work to prepare for the National Certification Examination. Topics include foodborne illnesses, safe food handling, cooking and storage, employee health and hygiene, facility safety and maintenance, cleaning and sanitization.

The fee for this course is $100 and includes the textbook, class materials, and exam. Please register by July 15. Registration is required and classes fill quickly due to limited registrations. Register online at go.illinois.edu/foodmanagers or call Macoupin County Extension at 217-854-9604. For any questions or concerns, please call 217-854-9604.
