Maroso

Delmo Maroso died on June 3, 2024 at Community Hospital of Staunton. He was born in Carlinville, on Feb. 24, 1930 the son of Giovanni and Mary (Abelloni) Maroso and they preceded him in death. He married his wife for over 62 years, Marilyn Simberger in 1956 and she preceded him in death in 2019.

He graduated with the class of 1947 from Carlinville High School. Delmo enlisted in the U.S. Army and after his service, he continued his education at Blackburn College in Carlinville. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Washington University Dental School in St. Louis, Mo. After a short private practice, he re-enlisted as a Captain in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 and served in Korea and spent time on U.S. soil.

After his second round of service, he practiced dentistry at the Labor Health Institute in St. Louis, Mo., for ten years. In 1975 he joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton. He was named Professor Emeritus after retiring in 1997. He participated in many outdoor sports and activities. He was also a Gold Wing parachutist with over 1400 freefalls.

He is survived by his three children, John, Ann, and Amy. Preceding him in death was his sister, Albina. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Staunton Public Library. Williamson Funeral Home, Staunton is in charge of arrangements.
