Ray Boyd Hughes, 87, passed away on May 27, 2024 at John Cochran VA Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. Hughes was born on Dece. 28, 1936 to Boyd Hughes and Anna (Saathoff) Hughes in Litchfield. He attended Mt. Olive High School and graduated with the class of 1954. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp.
After his honorable discharge from the military, he became a farmer. Hughes was a member of the Marine Corps League Prairie Land Leatherneck Detachment 1385 Litchfield, the Lincoln Land Leathernecks Detachment 1174, Greenville, the Freemason’s of New Douglas, U.S. Marines Devil Dogs, and the History Museum in Greenville.
He is survived by a son, William Alan (Deidra Ann) Hughes; a daughter, Rae Ann Hughes; and a stepson, Dale Lee Fritzsche.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. Masonic and Military services will begin at 7 p.m. following the Visitation at the Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the TreeHouse Wildlife Center in Grafton, Ill., Young Marines,; Mt. Vernon, Ill., Marine Corps League Auxiliary P. O. Box 3038, Staffard, Va. 22555- in the memo include “Little Angel."
