Local Area Community Invited To Tour SHS

Staunton community members invited to help guide future facility improvements in Staunton CUSD No. 6 by attending an Open House in the High school’s old gym on June 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or June 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. to share ideas and suggestions for improving district facilities. Attendees can stay as long as they like, ask questions and provide feedback on potential solutions.

Attendees will be able to tour the high school and learn about the challenges facing the district’s facilities. The tours are hosted by Bulldog Blueprint, a team of parents, community members and school staff dedicated to working with local residents to plan for the district's future facilities.

Bulldog Blueprint seeks community input on the challenges Staunton CUSD No. 6 faces regarding facility maintenance and repair, the safety and security of students, and whether current facilities adequately accommodate students’ academic and co-curricular needs.

Bulldog Blueprint was formed to assist in the development of a facility improvement plan. District resident Joe Hemphill serves as the Bulldog Blueprint process chairman and is responsible for facilitating team meetings and overseeing subcommittees. “It’s important to involve and listen to residents from all of the communities that make up Staunton CUSD No. 6,” Hemphill said. “We applaud the board of education, district administration and staff for providing for a community-led, transparent process to put together a work plan to improve the safety and educational learning facilities our students use on a daily basis.”

Residents are encouraged to attend one of the following Open Houses:

June 8: High School Old Gym, 801 N. Deneen St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

June 10: High School Old Gym, 801 N. Deneen St., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“Our district is fortunate to have the support of our community, which allows us to provide the best education possible for our students,” said Staunton CUSD No. 6 Superintendent Brett Allen. “The Bulldog Blueprint team is a prime example of that commitment to our schools. We look forward to our families and community members stopping by one of the Open Houses to learn more about our challenges and to be able to provide feedback on possible solutions.”

Community members can learn more and RSVP for an Open aHouse at the Bulldog Blueprint website.
