Phyllis Jean Robinson, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on Feb. 8, 1945, in Edwardsville, Ill., the daughter of Ralph and Mabel (Klopmeier) Helmkamp, and they preceded her in death. She married her husband of nearly 55-years, John Robinson, at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill on Aug. 9, 1969 and he survives.
A graduate of Bunker Hill High School, with the class of 1963, she began her career at Olin as a switchboard operator before dedicating herself full-time to her family and farm. She was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill. She taught Sunday school, managed the Cradle Roll, and was an active member of both LWML and Ladies Aid, where she served as treasurer for several years.
Phyllis is survived by two sons, Eric (Suzie) Robinson, Glen Carbon and Mark (Katie) Robinson Collinsville; six grandchildren, Ashlee, Kristina, Luke, Nolan, Jake, and Cole Robinson; and two sisters Louise (Jerry) Weidner, Bunker Hill and Janet Gillis, Jerseyville.
She was preceded in death by her in-laws, Ole and Elsie Robinson; sister, Arlene Hall; two brothers-in-law, Ed Gillis and Tony Robinson; nephew, Ed Gillis Jr.; daughter, Amy Robinson; and grandson, Wyatt Robinson.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 23, followed by a service on Friday, May 24, at Zion Lutheran Church located at 609 E. Warren St., in Bunker Hill. Arrangements were entrusted to Kravanya Funeral Home of Bunker Hill.
Interment followed at St. James Cemetery located at 5662 Illinois 159, of Edwardsville, Ill., 62025. Rev. Pastor Robert Weise officiated. Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
