Library Happenings By Julie Jarman

Hello Friends of the Staunton Public Library. With Summer rapidly approaching, it means that the Summer Reading Program is also right around the corner once again. The theme this year is "Read, Renew, Repeat."

The Summer Reading Program is every Thursday in June at teh Staunton Public Library from 3 p.m. to to 4 p.m.

Everyone between the ages three years and up is welcome.

Story time, art activities and as always, if time permits, games will be on the agenda every Thursday in June.

Reading prizes will be offered as well as for the individuals accomplishing their goals.

No registration is required and attendance prizes will be handed out after every session while supplies last.

With the warm weather presenting a warm welcome, the Staunton Public Library encourages all to stop by Water Tower Park lcoated in Staunton and check out the Staunton Public Library's proud little gem, the interactive story display.

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems was the book for May. Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann will be the next story.

Both stories are wonderfully illustrated and beloved. The permanent story book walk can be found on the path to the playground directly across from the Pickle Ball courts. Stories are changed every four to five weeks weather permitting.

There is so much to see and do at the library especially in the summer. Books, audio books, movies, and music are all available for check out. E-book access is also offered for those with a library card. We also have two game shelves full of manipulative items, board games, STEM products, floor puzzles, magna blocks, Legos, Brain Teasers, Magnetic board, etc. There are also two carts of reading kits, each one with a children's book and two activities inside the small tote.

For example, the Disney's 101 Dalmatians reading kit comes with the famous children's book, coloring sheets and a dozen toy dalmatians action figures that ties into the story and reinforces how fun reading can be.

The library also has a train table, puppet theater, doll houses, Lego table and a toddler climber to be enjoyed. All games, reading kits, and accessories are meant to stay inside the library as a way to encourage everyone to please come back and enjoy all of our wonderful little extras especially on a really hot summer day.
