Your phenomenal futbol playing Lady Bulldogs strolled on over to Greenville this afternoon for the Greenville Regional Final Match vs, you guessed it, Greenville. These two teams are so evenly matched. They have played twice this year and are 1-1. This is the rubber match, and for the Regional hardware. The weather nearly got the better of the match, but the thunderstorms and heavy rain stayed away.
To spare the details, this match was sooooo close. The Red and White dominated possession through 80 minutes, and then through 20 minutes of overtime. But, possession doesn’t equate to goals, and goals are what go on the scoreboard. At the end of regulation, the score was 1-1. Bre Feeley (Senior Striker) scoring off a corner kick that actually deflected off of a comet and into the net. After 100 minutes of play, we go to penalty kicks. After the first 5, we’re still tied. The next kicks are sudden death. Greenville steps up and shoots. Madelyn Davin (Freshman GK) gets a hand to it, but can’t keep it out of the net. S-Town stepped up and missed, ending the match and the Lady Bulldogs’ season in heartbreaking fashion.
These ladies gave their all tonight. This was an amazing season completing the third best season in Staunton Girls’ Soccer history with 14 wins. The future is bright as we started 5 Freshman just about every match.
We’ll miss these amazing seniors who did an exceptional job leading this team for 22 matches, countless practices, and weeks of open gyms. Coaches are so proud of you all. We can’t wait to see how you attack college and beyond!
