Homer U. Van Hooser, Major, U.S. Army (Ret.) (79) of Colorado Springs, Colo., died May 3 at his residence.

William F. Leitschuh (97) of New Douglas died May 6 at Utlaut Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Viola H. Sattovia (81) of Gillespie died May 7 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Norman E. Felchner (73) of Rockport, Mass., formerly of Staunton, died April 29 at Addison Gilbert Hospital.

Harry D. Baumeister, Sr. (74) of Meadowbrook died May 3 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton.

Eva M. Hefer (86) of Rochester died May 9 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.

New city officials were sworn in and took part in their first council meeting on Monday.

The City of Staunton and Macoupin County Economic Development signed a two-year lease for the old Citizen’s Bank building on Main Street.

Births: A daughter was born to Phil and Angie (Schuette) Callovini on April 1; A son was born to Chris Augustine and Brandy Law of Livingston on April 3.

Angela Schuette and Philip Callovini were married Nov. 1, 2008, in Wood River.

Vernon and Marie (Ahrens) Mindrup of Alhambra will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on May 17.
