Norman Emmons of Benld is the winner of the Partnership for Education Excellence 2024 Grand Raffle. Norm’s prize is $5,000; he has donated $500 of his winnings back to The Partnership to fund a future scholarship.
Norm and his wife Judy, both retried, have set five daughters through the CUSD7 schools. Currently three of the five are educators, two of them in the district: Lori Emmons and Amy Reiniesch.
“Education is important to our family, and we are proud of CUSD7,” says Norm. “They are doing a good job for out communities. Our daughters and now some of our grandchildren got good educations here, and The Partnership does a wonderful job,” offering scholarships that help students through higher education.
Norm is an active civic volunteer, currently serving as a member of the Benld City Council, of the local ambulance board, and of the Bertetti Public Library in Benld.
The annual Grand Raffle sold out this year with the help of CUSD7 staff, teachers, and administrators and hundreds of other local supporters as well as distant alums. In a first for The Partnership, two local people each bought $500 worth of tickets and another ten generous buyers each bought $100 worth of tickets. “This kind of community support has allowed The Partnership to invest more that $1 million in CUSD7 students during the past 30 plus years,” says Donna Prevedell, vice president and charter member of the education foundation. “We have been privileged to channel the generosity of hundreds of local supporters to our students. Warm thanks to all who bought tickets and who continue to trust The Partnership to carry out our shared mission.”
This year solid donor supports allows The Partnership to increase its scholarships from $1,000 to $2,000 each this year. “That’s a big jump from the $250 scholarships – all we were able to give in 1993,” says Prevedell. “The increase is all due to our friends and neighbors.”
Scholarship 2024 applications are now available in the GHS Student Services office and on The Partnership’s website: http://www.thepartnership7.org. They are due back in the GHS Student Services office no later than 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024.
