Asleep in Jesus and awaiting the Resurrection, Loraine Leona Birmingham, 97, of Glen Carbon, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the Lutheran Senior Services Meridian Village in Glen Carbon, Ill.

Loraine was born Sept. 18, 1926 in Sorento, Ill., the beloved daughter of the late Carl and Leona (Eickmeyer) Mohme. She was baptized into Christ on Oct. 21, 1926 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas. She was the beloved wife of Robert Birmingham, whom she was married to for 55-years. They married on Dec. 12, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas.

Loraine worked in Bookkeeping and Banking during her professional career. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and special times in Florida.

She is survived by a sister, Marie Long; sister-in-law, Donna Lou Mohme; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; two brothers, Leonard and Harold Mohme; sister, Darlene Buchmiller; two brothers-in-law, Robert Buchmiller and James Long; and sister-in law, Marie Mohme. Loraine was a loving daughter, wife, sister, sister-in-law, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend.

Loraine was blessed to spend the final 18 years of her life in the Meridian Village family where she made many friends, treasured special times and services, and received excellent accommodations. The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Meridian Village: Chaplains Randall, Brad, and Gerhard for feeding her with the word of god; Elena Durbin, for her love towards Loraine during her final years; Right at Home, for their services; Vitas and Nurse Jennifer, for their kind hospice care; Nurses Barb and Donna; and the CNA’s at Maple Lane, the long-term care unit of Meridian Village, for being there until Loraine's final breath.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2024 at Lesicko Funeral Home in Livingston, located at 271 N. Second St., Livingston, 62058. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, at the same location and interment will follow at New Douglas City Cemetery on N. Main St. of New Douglas, 62074. Lesicko Funeral Home of Livingston is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Loraine’s honor to the Meridian Village Benevolent Fund.
