Brabec

Laura Louise Brabec, 97, formerly of Staunton, of Pelham, Alabama., passed away at Columbiana Health and Rehab in Columbiana, Ala., on March 8, 2024. She was born on Nov. 8, 1926 in Edwardsville the daughter to the late Daniel and Ethel (Sparks) Harmon. She married her first husband and father of her children, Edgar Hering, and he preceded her in death. Her spouse, Albert Brabec, also preceded her in death.

After graduating from Edwardsville High School in Edwardsville, Ill., she spent many years in retail sales before eventually opening a restaurant named “Laura’s” in Staunton. She enjoyed catering various events. In her spare time, she loved to read, play cards, work in her garden, and later in life she enjoyed volunteering at HIS Station, a Christian based thrift store.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Rodney) Russell; son, Daniel Hering; grandchildren, Neely (Mark) Clayton and Rhonda (Darryl) Roy; and her great-grandchildren, Noah Clayton, Micah Clayton, Brynnley Roy, and Cameron Roy.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son during infancy, Donald Darwin Hering; her grandson, Nicholas Doulas; her seven sisters; and three brothers also preceded her in death.

The memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 19, at the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills located at 201 Montgomery South Vestavia, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills- Project Hope or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
