Dr. Victor Buehler announced his plans to stay in Staunton and complete his contract, making his retirement effective June 30, 2000.

The eighth grade volleyball Lady Terriers competed in the state competition and qualified for the final four.

Mark Sievers and Katrina Pratt were married Nov. 21, 1998, in Staunton.

A daughter was born to Bill and Jenni Alepra on March 8 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

A son was born to Jeff and Jill Whitfield on March 16 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Alvin B. Varwig (65) of Staunton died March 16 at his residence.

Mary M. Angal (83) of Petersburg, formerly of Staunton, died March 19 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Paul M. Stone, Jr. (75) of Staunton died March 15 at Doctor's Hospital in Springfield.

Frances Dorothy Goldasich (80) of Granite City died March 18 at Colonial Care Center in Granite City.

Harold Parks Benjey (87) of Bunker Hill died Feb. 27 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Thomas William Dawkins (84) of Florissant, Mo., formerly of Staunton, died March 18 at his home.

Lorraine Emma Howard (92) of Mt. Olive died March 19 at her residence.

Gyelia E. Pollard (72) of the Staunton and Bunker Hill area died March 21 at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.

Fred W. Ruehrup (81) of Edwardsville died March 20 at North Collier Hospital in Naples, Fla.

An aerator will be installed at Staunton Lake to improve water quality and fishing conditions.

Dollar General moved to their new location on East Main Street across from Casey’s General Store.

A world renowned astronomer, Dr. Scott Gaudi, acknowledged that his second grade teacher at Staunton Elementary inspired him to enter the astronomy field.

A son was born to Scott and Sherry Slemer of Glen Carbon on Feb. 16.
