Peter Joseph Matesa, 76, of Williamson, passed away at the Community Hospital of Staunton. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. He was born Oct. 14, 1947 in Litchfield to the late Peter Matesa and Betty Maguire. He married to Vickie Cagle on Nov. 29, 1969 in Livingston and she survives.
Peter was a Union Carpenter Local No. 633 in Granite City. Pete was a Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.
Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Livingston, Past Chief of Williamson Fire Department. Post Commander Staunton American Legion Post No. 362. A “DieHard” Livingston Blue Seal Player/Manager, Staunton Sportsman’s Club, Avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Visitation was Monday, March 18, 2024 at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. No services are scheduled at this time. Interment will be at a later date at New Douglas City Cemetery, of New Douglas.
He is survived by two sons, Chad Matesa, Williamson and Joe Matesa, Staunton; three grandchildren, Samantha Matesa (fiance’ Shaun Bettig), Collinsville, Olivia Matesa, Staunton, and Caitlynn Matesa, Staunton; one brother, Jim (Kim) Matesa, Benld; one sister, Pat (Gary) Rowe, Mackinaw, Ill; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
The Staunton Military Honor Guard will conduct graveside military rites at a later date. Memorials are suggested to either Staunton American Legion Post No. 362. Olive Fire Protection District, or to the family.
