Days Gone By In Staunton

Thursday, Sept. 20, 1923 -- KLAN MET NEAR WORDEN SATURDAY -- Quite a number of Staunton people on Saturday evening attended an open air meeting of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, held in a pasture just east of Worden. During the early part of the evening the crowd easily numbered 1000 persons, but as the evening was rather chilly some did not remain throughout the ceremonies.

At the opening of the meeting "Fighting Rob" Evans of East St. Louis was introduced and spoke for some time on the aims and objects of the Klan. He briefly traced its history from the founding by Col. Simmons on Look Out...
