Mercy of the Beloved
"Les Miserables," by Victor Hugo is one of the classics. One may recall the story of a loving priest, who upon giving refuge to Jean Valjean, a homeless traveler in the night, was robbed of the treasures he owned.
Later, Valjean, arrested and charged stood before the priest and found no condemnation, while one more silver candlestick was handed to him from a heart of holy love. The very thought of such mercy and kindness has endeared Hugo's classic amongst human hearts.
It is also, the story of God, who has opened his doorway and invited all to rest in his realm of grace. Each time, everyone is given shelter in his abundance, as everyone leaves they take with them things of great value from the household of a merciful God. When everyone stands before him to be judged for what was not really theirs in the first place, He will say,
"Dearly Beloved, don't forget I gave you the Savior, too. " It's how the story goes when God is the author of the book.
