Werner

Robert Charles Werner, age 95, of Staunton, formerly of Millstadt, Ill., passed away on Jan. 13, 2024 at the Community Hospital of Staunton. He was born March 2, 1928, in St. Louis the son of the late Ernest-Hugo and Christine Ida (Toennies) Werner. Robert married his wife, Charlotte, on July 30, 1950 and she preceded him in death on April 6, 2021.

Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal with a bronze service star. He is a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown, Millstadt VFW Post 7980. Robert owned and operated many greenhouses in the area over the years with his wife.

Robert was preceded in death by two sons, Allan and Jerry Werner; and two brothers, Herbert and Ernest Werner.

He is survived by two sons and their spouses, Dale Werner (Lexie) of Edwardsville and Neal Werner (Emilie) of St. Louis; daughter-in-law, Brenda Werner of Prairietown; nine grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairietown. A private family burial will take place at the Mt. Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt. Weber and Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements. The family requests memorials to Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
