DeBoard

Wilburn “Wayne” DeBoard, 72, of Mt. Olive, passed away at his home on Feb. 5, 2024. Wayne was born April 18, 1951 to Andrew Jackson DeBoard and Adele Beatrice Cattlet in Trumann, Ark. Wayne was raised in Wilmington, Ill. He married Cindy Sue Alverson on Aug. 18, 1984 in Decatur and she survives.

Wayne’s service spanned from 1970 to 1974 in the United States Army, where he bravely served in Vietnam. Wayne also served as a Lieutenant and Firearms Instructor at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, retiring after 32 years in 2005. He dedicated many years to serving as a police officer for the Mt. Olive Police Department.

Wayne was a committed member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive and took great pride in being a member of the Mt. Olive VFW. Wayne was known for his incredible kindness and generous nature, and he was deeply devoted to his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Jackson DeBoard; mother, Adele Beatrice Cattlet; five brothers, Charles, Jim, Bill, Joe, and Mike; and three sisters, Naydene, Etta and Virginia. He is survived by two sons, Zackary (Grace Leveillee) Gray, Brent Andrew (Emerald Abaddon Brewer) DeBoard; two daughters, Amy Jo (Kyle) Gerdes, Beth (John Griffin) DeBoard; siblings, Alice Futch and Jeff; grandchildren, Mallory, Cohen, Kate, Abby, Tyler and Klaire.

Visitation will take place at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 from 10 a.m. to noon. Funeral service will follow with Pastor Zach Krampien officiating. Becker and Son Funeral Home of Mt. Olive is in charge of the arrangements.
