Tim Kratochvil honored in for outstanding service

Friday, Jan. 12, it was the Championship of the Sangamon County Basketball Tournament and the gym at Lincolnland College was packed. Immediately before the big game, the former Mt. Olive athlete and Superintendent of the Pawnee school system was honored as their annual Friend of the County. This award is annually presented to an educator in Sangamon County who made a huge difference.

In front of many members of his family and friends, Tim Kratochvil was honored posthumously by the attendees with a long ovation. The plaque presented to his parents, Roger and Mary Kratochvil, states, "In appreciation for his dedication and service to the young people of Sangamon County." It was also intended for all three of his children, Jack, Luke and Olivia.

A list of his accomplishments, both athletic and educational, was read by Doug Furlow, an administrator in the Williamsville schools. Honored on the center floor of the gym was Tim's family and friends. Also on the floor as witnesses and supporters was the coaches and players from the Pawnee team. An autographed basketball with all of the player's signatures, was presented to his daughter, Olivia. Tim's passing ended a wonderful 27- year career in education at Genoa Kingston, Taylorville and Pawnee.

Several other fundraisers are being considered in Mt. Olive and Pawnee. A golf outing is under consideration for June 1 at the Auburn Edgewood golf course.
