Illinois casino revenue reaches $141.2m in Dec.

Revenue grew 7.7 percent compared to the month prior and 19 percent compared to Dec. 2022. Illinois casinos saw a boost in revenue in Dec. It was both a month-over-month improvement and a year-over-year advancement.

According to the Illinois Gambling Board, the state’s 15 casinos generated $141.2 million in revenue from table games and slots. That figure surpassed the Nov. 2023 gaming revenue total by around $11 million, 7.7 percent growth and surged past Dec. 2022 revenue totals by nearly $27 million, or 19 percent growth.

Nearly 1.1 million people visited one of the casinos in Illinois during the last month of 2023, a 30 percent year-over-year growth. Admissions were also ten percent higher than in Nov.

Rivers Casino Des Plaines paid more taxes in Dec. than any other Illinois casino made in the month. The casino welcomed 279,106 people, which represented over 25 percent of all casino admissions during the month. Its earnings of $45.4 million in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) accounted for 32.2 percent of the statewide total.

Taxes contributed from casino gaming also shot up in Dec. In total, the 15 casinos in Illinois paid $37.8 million in taxes. Of those taxes, $8.5 million will go to the municipalities that casinos reside in. Casinos paid about 11 percent more in taxes compared to the month before. The three casinos that contributed the most tax dollars in Dec. also made the most revenue: Rivers Casino, $16 million ($2.6 million local taxes); Grand Victoria Casino, $3.8 million ($716,685 local taxes); Harrah’s Joliet Casino and Hotel, $3.3 million ($583,503 local taxes).
