Hlafka

James D. Hlafka, 90, of Bunker Hill, died at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton on Dec. 31, 2023. James was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Gillespie to the late Albert J. Hlafka and Genevieve H. (Wilson) Hlafka. He married Sandra (Barth) Hlafka of Bunker Hill, on April 28, 1961 in Bunker Hill and she survives.

He was a school teacher and coach for Bunker Hill School District. Everyone that knew Jim knew basketball was his life.

He is survived by his son, Mike (Michele) Hlafka of Kingwood, Texas; daughter, Marti Hlafka of Springfield, Ill .; five grandchildren, Brooklyn (Tom) East, Michaela (Nick) Allen, Ashlyn (Aaron) Hurley, Trent Hlafka, and Luke Fisher; several great-grandchildren; and brother, Kyle (Patty) Hlafka of Staunton..

Funeral services were at Zion Lutheran Church in Bunker Hill on Jan. 5, 2024 and Rev. Robert Weise officiated. Interment was at the Bunker Hill Cemetery. Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill was in charge of the arrangements.
