Leta Hall, 92, of Worden, Ill., died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville with family by her side. She was born April 7, 1931, in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was a daughter of the late Roy and Dorothy Steed and Homer and Ethel Welch. She married Ben Hall on March 7, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2019.
She had many things she enjoyed in life. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord. She attended New Hope Baptist Church most of her life. She was active in the Women's Missionary Union (WMU) and teaching Sunday school and Bible school. Another love of her life was baby-sitting, and she impacted many children’s lives. She also loved gardening, sewing, and many crafts.
Leta is survived by three children, Bill (Carolyn) Hall, Barbara Tanksley, and Ginger (Tom) Smith; five grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty (George) McKinzie; and sister-in-law, Judy Steed. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her brothers and sisters in Christ. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda (Corkey) Reynolds and Cora (Don) Edwards; one brother, Eddy Steed; and two sons-in-law, Lester Prier and Larry Tanksley.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton with Rev. John Heater and Rev. David Lindgens officiating. Burial will follow at RoseLawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
