Monahan earned his Eagle Scout ranking by helping SHS band

Submitted by DAN MONAHAN / TO THE STAR-TIMES

On Dec. 14, 2023, Nicholas Monahan earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and two Palms so far. Nicholas has 35 merit badges and completed his Eagle Scout Project.

The large two-part project included the replacement of the older band instrument storage shelving in the Staunton High School Band Room. The new instrument storage is significantly larger, allowing for more instruments to be stored effectively. The other large portion of the project was a vast improvement to the uniform room which is now designed to allow students to independently find and return their uniforms.

Band members keep their cubby and uniform spot throughout their high school band career. They started using the room this past summer for parades and field shows.

When asked why he chose this project, he said, "I chose this project because it gives back to one of the most formative areas in my life so far: Music. Thanks to all those that donated supplies, funds, and time to make the project a success.

Nicholas is a member of Staunton Boy Scout Troop 8034 and he began his Scouting journey as a Tiger Scout, with Staunton Cub Scout Pack 3034.

He has enjoyed the camaraderie and sense of community that Scouting brings. Some of his favorite parts of Scouting include working fish fries at the VFW, playing violin, and bugling at Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day ceremonies. It was not always an easy path but then again, it isn’t supposed to be.

Thanks to all along the way that helped him get to this point. His work ethic and achievements are commendable and well-appreciated.
