Dawson

Rev. Dr. John David Dawson, 78, of Woodburn, Ill., died at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023. He was born July 2, 1945, in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada to Fred Dawson and Marion (Shaw) and they preceded John in death.

He married Ellen Irene (Lawton) Dawson in Nov. 1965 in Sault Ste Marie, Mich. They were married by Ellen’s father, Rev. Clarence A. Lawton.

He was a Baptist Minister for 35 years. John was Pastor for the Calvary Baptist Church located in Woodburn. John was Chaplin for area volunteer fire departments and he was also a member of the North West Turkey Federation. John was a volunteer at the Community Hope Center of Cottage Hills, Ill.

He is survived by his spouse, Ellen Irene Dawson of Woodburn; son, Victor Dawson of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada; grandson, Xander; granddaughter, Kallika.

Friends were able to call on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill. Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 15, at Calvary Baptist Church of Woodburn and the burial was at Woodburn Cemetery in Woodburn. Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill has been in charge of the arrangements.
