Mary Margaret (McGann/Robb) Dal Pozzo, 79, of Pittsfield, Illinois, died surrounded by her family while in hospice at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023. She was born in Tampa, Florida, on Sept. 9, 1944 the daughter of George Edward and Mary Josephine McGann and they preceded Mary in death. Mary Margaret was married twice. Firstly to the Late Jon Ross Robb on June 5, 1965 and he preceded her in death. She then married her husband, Mark Dal Pozzo, whom Mary Margaret is survived by.
Mary Margaret was raised in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1962 and graduated as an RN in 1965. In Mary’s first marriage, they were very active in the former Pittsfield Theater Guild, headed by her husband at the time. She attended nursing school at St. Vincent De Paul in St. Louis, Mo. and was employed as an RN in Pittsfield, Hannibal, Quincy, and Barry.
The family moved to Hillsboro, Ill., where she met and married her husband, Mark Dal Pozzo, who was the director of bands at Hillsboro High School, to whom she is survived by. They both enjoyed traveling to visit friends and family. Mary Margaret was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and caring nurse. After the move to Hillsboro, she continued to care for people in various nursing positions. She worked with Alzheimer’s and dementia patients for most of her career and was proud to have developed the first downstate-certified Alzheimer’s unit. A few years after retirement, Mary and her husband moved to Tallula, Ill. to be closer to family.
Mary Margaret was preceded in death by her two brothers, George Michael McGann and James Raymond McGann; numerous grandparents, aunts, and uncles. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Flynn LaVigne (husband, Fred) and son, Christopher McGann Rob (wife, Amy); siblings, Kathleen McGann of Pittsfield, Patrick McGann (wife, Jennifer) of Anacortes, Wash., and David (wife, Helen) of Huntsville, Tex .; four grandchildren, Jon-Mark Robb, Tyler LaVigne, Alex Cecil (husband, Ryan), and Nikki Saunders (wife, Chelsea); four great-granddaughters, Willow, Riley Cecil, Lillian, and Madelyn Saunders.
The Nursing Honor Guard Ceremony finished up with a prayer service on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023 and visitation was held immediately following the prayer service. The mass of resurrection was at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2023 and interment followed at St. Mary’s Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield.
