Guest writer, Cinnabar, a Welsh corgi from Marlboro, Va., reviews The Night Before Christmas, by Clement Moore, illustrated by Tasha Tudor, Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing.
Perhaps never has this classic poem been illustrated more charmingly than in this volume.
Tasha Tudor spent a long and gracious lifetime depicting children’s stories, fashioning dolls and animals out of wool and yarn for her young relatives and friends, and generally constructing a world based on the best of olden times. Not surprisingly, she often used corgis in her most inspired paintings and drawings.
One can clearly be seen in one illustration as he helps St. Nick fill a stocking while holding Santa’s pipe firmly in his own mouth. The book receives a final rating of five tail wags (out of a possible five). It is a perfect pairing of Moore’s poetry and Tudor’s art.
