Fourteen Staunton High School students were named Illinois State Scholars: Beth Moore, Megan Sievers, Mike Tranter, Richard Brown, Jennifer Steinmeyer, Danielle Atwood, Julia Kays, Tom Stewart, Kris Pineda, Christin Cavoretto, Mickey Schutzenhofer, Kristi Brown, Brett Herbeck and Stacey Fletcher.

Col. Walter and Elaine (Libbra) Beinke celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 12.

Ruth L. Coatney (60) of Carlinville died Dec. 6 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Evelyn Ann Ozanic (80) of Mt. Olive died Dec. 1 at Litchfield Health Care Center in Litchfield.

Emma Jane Schoen (91) of Granite City died Dec. 1 in Granite City.

Grace Viola Henderson (81) of Benld died Dec. 5.

Alderman Fred Lotter explained that residents will see either a five percent or 10 percent increase in water rates depending on usage. Fees for facility charge and water plant charge will also be added to water bills in January.

Amy Rogier and Aaron Klenke of Worden were married Aug. 30 in Hamel.

Twins, a boy and a girl, were born to Lige and Angie (Sievers) Daley on June 24.
