John Lewis, 79, of Holiday Shores, Ill., died on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at his residence in Holiday Shores. He was born Sept. 9, 1944, in Troy N.Y., the son of John and Elizabeth Lewis and John married Michelle, his wife and she survives.
John is a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He served his country from 1961 to 1964, including a tour in Korea. He belonged to VFW Post 1241 in Staunton. John was a volunteer fireman for 46 years in Wynantskill, N.Y., Glen Este, Ohio, Glen Carbon, Ill., Edwardsville, Worden, and Holiday Shores. He was a "car nut" with over 50 classic cars including a '56 Chevy BelAir, '35 Ford pickup truck, '87 Grand National (2), '65 El Camino, and 7 Corvettes. In his career, John worked for National Lead, Sterling Drug, Miller Brewing and Anheuser Busch; retiring from A.B. in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; a daughter, Joelle; a sister, Barbara (John Heavers; a sister-in-law, Natalie (Karl) Adams; brothers-in-law, Mark (Peggy) McAndrew, and Bill (Marilyn) McAndrew; eight nieces and nephews; and a "special" granddaughter, Megan Groennert.
Per John's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. There will be no services held at this time.
