Dr. William Ray Stinnett, 100, of Carlinville, Ill., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at his residence. He was born on Aug. 20, 1923, in Benld, to James and Pearl (Trioni) Stinnett. William married Olga Zebrun on June 21, 1946, at the Orthodox Church in Benld. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 2011.
William attended Illinois College in Jacksonville and Northwestern Dental School in Chicago. He first practiced dentistry in Barry, Ill., for five years. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force as a dentist stationed at the Tachikawa Airbase in Japan, holding the rank of captain. For over 40 years he had a dental practice in Carlinville. He was an avid reader, fisherman, duck hunter, wood carver and wood worker. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club, both of Carlinville.
William is survived by his son, William Ray (Joyce) Stinnett, Jr., of St. Louis, Mo .; his daughter, Jeanne (Richard) Hughes of New Orleans, La .; three grandchildren, Kristen, Sarah, and Richard; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers, Myrle and Earl.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Holy Dormition Cemetery in Benld.
