Anglin

Jess R. Anglin Sr., 80, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at the home of his daughter with his family by his side. Jess was born in East St. Louis, Ill., on Sept. 18, 1943, to Jess and Millie (Ingram) Anglin. He attended school at Clark Elementary and Jr. High Schools in East St. Louis until 8th grade. He married Dorothy Butler on June 7, 1963. They were married for 60 years.

Jess loved fishing, camping, playing bingo, working on cars, and slots. Jess was loved by many for his good humor, laughs, jokes, and kindness. He really enjoyed helping others. Family was his life. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jess loved his three dogs, Jewels, Miley and Coco. For over 30 years, Jess was employed at St. Louis National Stockyards, working in several positions. While there he worked as a police officer and for over 20 years as a volunteer firefighter. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Olive Fire Department for many years.

Jess is survived by his wife, Dorothy Anglin of Mt. Olive; four sons, Jess (Patricia) Anglin of Litchfield, William Anglin and companion Teresa of Carlinville, Philip Anglin of Litchfield, Donald Anglin of Galesburg; one daughter, Dawn (Scott) Martin of Mt. Olive; grandchildren, Christina (Derek) Sellers of Collinsville, Michael (Corina) Lee of Hillsboro, Matthew Bone and Andrew Bone of Mt. Olive, Whitney (Logan) Miller of Litchfield, Cody (Tessa) Anglin of Litchfield, Aaron (Charity) Anglin of Carlinville, Kyleigh (Sam) Anglin of Litchfield, Regina Holmes of Springfield, Tiffany Anglin of Colorado; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tommy (Wendy) Anglin of Buffalo, Mo.; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws; three brothers, Jess Anglin, Jr., Edmond Anglin, and Terry Anglin; four sisters-in-law; one nephew; and one daughter-in-law.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the home of his daughter in Mt. Olive.
