Staunton Helping Hands Center Oct. Recap

The Staunton Helping Hands Center is gearing up for the Holidays. The SHHC is currently seeking donations of $25 that will sponsor the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for local families (turkey and the fixings). Donations are received through Venmo @stauntonhelpinghands or to PO Box 111 in Staunton.

The Rice Bowl Grant for $1215 was received in October from Catholic Relief Services. Funding for this grant is received through special donations during lent. The grant was through the Springfield Diocese, but local donations through St. Michael's Catholic Church made this possible. The SHHC is very appreciative for the local support.

Thank you to the following individuals and businesses that donated in Oct.: Rich Fiori, Cash Out Gaming, Diana Weindel, Kathleen Benda, Susan Miller, Gloria and Robert Dvorak, Peggy Barton, Wanda Watson, Lynn Neuhaus, and the late Merry Callovini.

Thank you to the following churches that made donations in Oct.: St. Michael’s Church, The Assembly Church, and Concord Baptist Church.

Memorials received in Oct.: In loving memory Bill Moser from Russell Furniture Store and In loving memory of Bill Garrett from AJ Pete Company.

Shelves at the food pantry become light this time of year. Thankfully, the largest food drive of the season is right around the corner.

The Scouting for Food Drive will occur on Saturday morning, Nov. 18. Local Scouts will be picking up bags of non-perishable food from your door and will sort it and deliver it to the pantry. Here is a list of the most helpful items to donate: stuffing, oyster crackers, tuna or hamburger helper, cream of chicken or cream of mushroom soup, canned fruit like pineapple or peaches, canned vegetables like green bean, corn, peas and potatoes, boxed mashed potatoes, salrine, mac-n-cheese, pancake mix, syrup, instant oatmeal, and condiments like ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce and grape jelly.

Thank you in advance for preparing bagged items for pickup on Saturday, Nov. 18.
