During Monday night’s city council meeting, Alderman Terry Tiplet announced that the Pickleball court concrete is finished. The temporary striping is on, and the net is up. The fencing will also be up soon. They are waiting until next spring to have the final painting on the court.
In Correspondence, the city received a letter of resignation dated Nov. 9, 2023 from part time custodian, Lauri Ebersohl. Her last day of employment with the city is Nov. 22, 2023.
In the Treasurer’s Report, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, announced that Certificates of Deposit recently purchased at Bank of Springfield for 9 months at 5.15% are as follows:
Band Fund, $15,000; Depreciation Fund, $75,000; and General Fund, $150,000.
Certificates of Deposit that have recently matured and have been cashed at Bank of Hillsboro are as follows:
Civic Improvement Fund, $250,000 plus $4,273.09 interest; Infrastructure Fund, $350,000 plus $5,982.33 interest; Reserve Fund, $200,000 plus $3,418.48 interest; Telecommunications Fund, $100,000 plus $1,709.24 interest; and Water Fund, $100,000 plus $1,709.24 interest.
In the City Clerk’s Report, City Clerk Dennis Steigemeier, announced that the City Clerk’s Office will be closed on Nov. 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. All public works employees, except for one water treatment plant employee, will be off those days as well. All agenda items for the Nov. 27 city council meeting are due by Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.
In Park and Civic Improvement, the city council voted to pay an Invoice to Christmas Décor Systems for the Main Street Christmas decorations for $3,500.
In Finance and Claims, the city council agreed to pay an Invoice from C.J. Schlosser & Co., LLC for payment in preparation of the city’s audit for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2023 for $9,385.
The city council approved Contract Change Order #1 from Kamadulski Excavating & Grading for additional pipe needed on the Route 4/Alco Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for $1,398.
The city council voted to pay Final Pay Estimate #2 from Kamadulski Excavating & Grading Co. for work completed on the Route 4/Alco Sanitary Sewer Installation for $4,723.50. This will be paid from Budget Line Item 37.71.852.0.
The city council accepted a bid from J. P. Burns Excavating for the Main Street Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for $152,714.30.
The city council voted to authorize Mayor Neuhaus to sign the Notice of Award to J.P. Burns Excavating for the Main Street Sanitary Sewer Extension.
The city council approved Renewal Quote with Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust for the city’s Municipal Insurance for the year Dec. 1, 2023 through Dec. 1, 2024 for $122,417. The Staunton Public Library will be reimbursing the city $969 for their portion of the premium.
The city council agreed to pay an Invoice from Fehr Graham for professional services rendered regarding the North Street Lift Station and Force Main Project for $4,400 to be paid from Budget Line Item 56.45.865.0.
The city council accepted a bid from Gelly Excavating & Grading for the West Frontage Road Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for $293,943.23.
The city council voted to authorize Mayor Neuhaus to sign the Notice of Award to Gelly Excavating & Grading for the West Frontage Road Sanitary Sewer Extension Project.
In Utilities and Water, the city council approved Renewal Quote with Hach Co. for annual maintenance at the water treatment plant in the amount of $12,819. The starting date is Jan. 1, 2024 and the ending date is Dec. 31, 2024.
In Personnel, the city council approved Christmas bonuses to City Employees as follows:
$250 to Department Heads; $150 to Full Time Employees; and $100 to Part Time Employees with more than 250 hours per year.
In Judiciary, the first reading was given for Ordinance #2222 authorizing the Levy and Collection of Taxes for the corporate and municipal purposes of the city of Staunton for the Fiscal Year beginning May 1, 2023 and ending April 30, 2024.
The first reading was given for Ordinance #2223 annexing Certain Territory to the city of Staunton located at 1037 N. Easton St. (PIN #01-000-355-00.
Those present for the meeting were Mayor Craig Neuhaus, City Clerk Dennis Stiegemeier, City Treasurer Cindy Pirok, City Attorney Phil Lading, Police Chief Jeff Doerr, Public Works Director Mike Kuethe, Aldermen Ryan Machota, David Manning, David Dias, Terry Tipler, and Kristy Berg. Alderman Matthew McKee was absent. The next city council meeting will be on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023 at 7 p.m.
