David "Dave" Len Delashmit, 73, of Mt. Olive, Ill., died on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on Nov. 6, 1949, to Harold Arthur Delashmit and Neva Ida (Austin) Delashmit in Collinsville.
He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1968. Dave was a Vietnam War veteran who served in the United States Army and was employed as a truck driver for much of his life following his service. Dave was a resident of Mt. Olive, Illinois and remained an ardent patriot until his death. Dave was a staunch supporter of the military, first responders, and the country he loved.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs. Jerry Delashmit of Springfield, Mo., daughter, and many friends. Worthy of special mention are Eddie and Deborah Viehweg, of Mt. Olive. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a visitation and a memorial service at Becker and Son Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 3. The visitation will start at 9 a.m. and conclude at 10 a.m. when the service officiated by Pastor James Ritter will begin. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
Dave was a supporter of the Tunnels to Towers, which supports the families of fallen first responders and military Gold Star families.
