Catherine Carter, 97, of Worden, Ill., died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at her home. She was born on Feb. 2, 1926, in Edwardsville, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Coleman) Puncher.
She was a member of 660 Retirement Club - Machinists, and a former member of the Western Club. Ms. Carter was born and raised in Edwardsville. She worked 37 years at Olin in Alton and retired as a cap operator in the cap department in the primer (primers for shotgun shells). She enjoyed watching television. She liked travelling, travelled to 11 countries, and collected coffee cups.
Survivors include three children, Mary Raulston of Edwardsville, Raymond (Sandy) Carter of New Douglas, Cristine Griffing of Worden; sisters, Betty Mates, of Mission, Texas, Wilma Hemken of Granite City; five grandchildren, Terry Stewart, Catherine (William) Patterson, Erin Velazquez, Raymond (Kathryn) Carter, Chelsea Griffing; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Alice Stewart and Karen Carter; son-in-law, James Roulston; two sisters, June Blakey, Mary Lou Hoenig; grandchild, Denise Stewart; great-grandchild, McKennah Carter; and former husbands, Raymond Carter and William Dustmann.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Dauderman Mortuary in Hamel with Rev. Dan L. Perry officiating. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Carpenter.
Memorials may be made to Huntingson's Disease Society or American Diabetes Association.
