Moser
William John “Bill” Moser, 87, of Staunton, Ill., died on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He was born Feb. 16, 1936, in Granite City, the son of the late Fred and Catherine (Dickman) Moser. He married Ellen Wiltrout in 1971, and she survives.
Bill retired from Illinois Power/Ameren after 42 years of service. After retirement, he spent his time doing construction and handyman work, he did consulting work for Ameren, he worked for the City of Staunton, served as a bartender at TC’s Tavern and Mr. T’s Tavern, both in Staunton, and volunteered his time with various community events. He was a member of the Granite City Aerie #1126 Fraternal Order of the Eagles since 1962, and was an honorary member of Concordia Hall in Staunton. He played and coached the Men’s Softball League with the Eagles for years. He loved bowling, golfing, and fishing, but his favorites were whatever his “kids” were participating in. He enjoyed traveling and adventure, spending time with family and friends, but his true passion was the joy he brought to so many throughout his 62 years of being “Santa.”
Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ellen Moser; two daughters, Dawn (John) Rae, Tami (Mike) Sherman; bonus daughter, Lisa (George) Marsh; six grandchildren, Briana (Austin) Sherfy, Kati (Josh) Pyle, Tron Sherman, Lexi (Billy) Estrada, Britney (Charles) Lucania, Micheal Hagnauer; nine great-grandchildren, Braxton Sherfy, Emmett Pyle, Griffin Pyle, Trenton Branham, Lizzy and Francisco Estrada, and Landon, Sophia, and Grayson Lucania; one sister, Freda Kraus; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred Moser and David Moser; and three sisters, Edna Ward, Tina Cashen, and Lori Aerne.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 3 p.m. to ? at Concordia Hall in Staunton.
